The Worst Problem Affecting America Today.

LBN-COMMENTARY By STUART H. KAPLAN: The worst problem affecting America
today is the lack of planning and even worse, caring about our future. From
the top levels of government to the average consumer, we think only for
today. We have become individually and collectively selfish. We spend more
than we have, consume more than we need, waste natural resources faster then
the earth can replenish then, and favor our own special interests to the
point that it is immoral and dangerous. We are fat and unhealthy,
physically, financially, and spiritually. We don't seem to realize that we
are al one nation, and if part of us suffers (and that includes future
generations
), we will all ultimately suffer. To Reply directly to Stuart H.

Women's Gymnastics-Olympics

Last night watching the Women's gymnastics brought me back to when I was sitting at my aunts house on the floor three inches from the tv set watching the Nadia Comaneci, in the 80's. She stole my heart. Anything I could get my hands on to watch Nadia was a gift.

And here I was, glued to the TV again; my heart racing watching the USA women's team perform their mighty hearts out. Their humanness, and their perfection on display for the world. I felt the pain of
Alicia Sacramone as she fell attempting a jumping mount. Her face said it all. And even though it is speculated that China's gymnasts were underage, they still performed spectacularly. Watching USA Men's Michael Phelps take Gold in Swimming, making this his personal record breaking 'most Gold medals in history by one athlete', and breaking more records just blew me away.

I didn't want to go to sleep, my heart was swelled with pride. These amazing athletes, with eyes of steel focus, just electrified me. My four year old asked me, "mommy, when can I do that?" watching gymnastics. "Whenever you want to, honey." I said and I knew I meant it.

Promote thyself

Over the years, I have received some negative feedback at times from people who do not understand what self marketing is. They are offended by it. Those people are always people who don’t self market. Also, I have an opinion too about the self marketing haters…

quotes

… like my daughter says: “Love your haters, they are your biggest fans”

In the beginning while I was still growing my nice thick, double-plated-independent-filmmakers skin, I actually was so botherd and hurt by some of the public being downright mean to me about this topic. lol. I laugh about it now, because it really is silly.

See it went like this: I was this woman looking to lose 50 lbs after my fifth child was born. So I did this amazing resistant training program, the Kennedy System.

I lost the 50 lbs and got toned, and I was excited! So excited that's all I would talk about. Now it was easy because most everyone else wanted to talk about it too because they did not understand how I could lose all this weight. So my husband and I took on the actual DVD series and helped package and...promote it. Why? That's how we make our living. I found it to be very easy to promote and talk about. The internet was booming with social sites, health blogs, etc. I

opened blogs and talked to women about this great product. Fantastic, yes? No. I was kicked off of most of the sites, called spammer, and all sorts of other names. Didn't women want to know a great way to lose weight? I was such a success story. I wanted to share my story and help women. I wanted to sell the DVD set to them. It backfired. I did get some sales later, but it was after I self published my articles I wrote on how I did it.

I copied how other health & fitness DVD's set up their sites, and advertising.

And that is how I really started to understand how the internet works. People want to know upfront if you are trying to sell them something. They do not want to be 'snookered'. That was happening all over the web too. And at a ridiculously alarming rate. So, everyone (including me) became a defensive web surfer. Until I started getting great virus scanners like Norton, and the such, I was being harassed like everyone else by spammers.

Well, as the law and many great sites are controlling these pests, I could be considered one because I am a 'marketing vendor'. I have something to sell. I have films, and products. My hard work at designing t shirts and gifts for fun (because I am an artist), I thought it would be such a joy to share all these great things with the public. This also became something I was 'selling'. Now, I was a spammer?

The rules are still foggy in this area. I have found a happy medium, and it goes something like this.

Set up your own blog. A real blog about your interests, or who you are. Be very clear to the target audience is (mom bloggers, working moms, film buffs, Cuba activism, etc). Then start talk about what is going on with you or in the industry. You can show case your wares, like I do here, or create a quiet link that links to another page with products after you have generated the readers interests.

Now, we could not support ourselves on this process alone. The hours does not make sense, but making three films a year does and then doing this in between-now that makes sense. And that is how I tie the whole 'self promotion-self marketing' machine together.

And don't forget TAGS. Tags or labels are a self marketers best friend. The spiders will pick up on these key words and you will watch your site go up the Google ladder.

The Character Factor: The death of Political Insanity

THE IMMIGRANT MAGAZINE

The Character Factor: The death of Political Insanity
The Case Of Cuba

By Luis Moro

Insanity may be defined as doing the same thing repeatedly with the expectation of a different result. A politician who supports a failed 40-year-old policy could be diagnosed with "Political Insanity". It is time we killed off Political Insanity by our elected U.S. officials. This and many more facts will be explored in the next issue of Immigrant Magazine.

Would you trust a person who continues to make the wrong decision for almost fifty years? Would you support a person who will speak in the name of helping people, PEOPLE who continuously say that person is not helping them? Would you believe a person who upon receiving a financial donation would change their vote?

"The Character Factor" is a full coverage story about the U.S. Embargo on Cuba and how a failed policy is still supported by so few even though it negatively affects so many. You will be surprised to find out how a one thousand dollar donation ($1,000) can buy a vote in Washington, DC. And even more surprising is how many politicians actually sell their votes for money. It is as blatant as one day they are against our U.S. policies against Cuba; they get a donation and the next day they vote for the failed policy against Cuba. We will explore why a few white politicians in America and Cuba strangle Cuba, a country with a predominantly black population.

With the duplicity, outright lying and misrepresentations by many of today's politicians there is one clear question that separates today's candidates for the U.S. Presidency. Are you for or against the four- decade failed, U.S. Policy on Cuba? The answer to this question could be the one answer that will determine the vote of every American.

Nobody can deny that U.S. Policies towards Cuba have failed over the last several decades. We all know that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result. It is clear in these times of political insanity that no politician can hide from his or her history. And all politicians should be judged on their present character to determine our future. The character factor requests all Americans to bring to the forefront politicians who sell themselves. If a politician votes for and supports a failed U.S. Policy, they clearly are not able minded, equitable and perhaps even honest leaders.

It is known that in our nation's capital, legislative votes are for sale and barter. But no one will get away from the factual report revealing once and for all our nation's leaders who have lost their character factor.

Are you for a four-decade-old failed U.S. Policy on Cuba? Your character factor will now speak.

We must face: Why Barack Obama can lose on "Election Moment".

And what we must do so he Wins.

America can be seen as a nation of instant gratification, shock value and wishful thinking. Through these valid perceptions our ability to succeed against great odds is proven often. Our will to have good triumph over evil is undeniable. And most of all; our fortunate gifts living in this land prevail against our own internal enemy's of thought.

This coming Presidential Election Day will require us all to do great battle with the enemy's of thought, the high-jackers of thinking, the masters of influencing spontaneity.

HOW DEEP WILL YOU GO.

Barack Obama will lose if we don't drudge out every ounce of racism alive and well in America. Our nations public voice and face has behaved at the highest levels of proper presentation; pretending that racism is dead or at least almost gone. But our private thoughts, deep in the gullies of ones own mind, lives the uncertainty of our personal truth. On "Election moment", as we choose will America vote for a person who is not a white male? *There is nothing wrong with voting for a white male, that is not the point of this commentary.

HOW OBAMA MAY LOSE.

I can assert many voting Americans will walk to the voting booth on Election Day and gravel with their choice for a president based on color. And I can confirm, many voting Americans will inequitably vote for anyone but a black, mulatto or ethnic president. This "Election Moment" must be influenced by a character choice, nothing else.

THE SOLUTION.

On our campaign road to an Obama White house, we must remember to keep it simple. This Election Moment is not about Democrat or Republican, man or woman, even the color of a persons skin. This Election Moment is about Character.

THE CHARACTER FACTOR

A persons character, their thought process, their ability to lead, to change course, to admit their errors, to put in corrections, to adjust their course, to learn, grow, to be wrong, to have faith beyond one's own faith and many more of these attributes is what we need as Americas next generation of leaders.

ONE QUESTION WILL REVEAL THE CHARACTER FACTOR

Will you abolish the failed forty seven (47) year old U.S. Embargo on Cuba?

It's a yes or no question.

Any politician or person that still has to think about saying yes. Or is determined to maintain, tighten and enforce a U.S. Policy that has not worked for forty seven years clearly does not have The Character Factor.

YES IS THE ONLY ANSWER

Yes to abolishing the five decade old failed policy against Cuba is the only answer that will demonstrate a person's character.

WHAT YOU CAN DO.

"Will you abolish the failed forty seven (47) year old U.S. Embargo on Cuba?"

I ask that you include and ask this question to every politician you meet. Ask it on every blog you participate in. Make this election about the character factor of the person running for office.

JOHN McCAINS CHARACTER FACTOR

Ask McCain every chance you can. Why is he committed to continuing the embargo on Cuba that has not worked for forty seven years?

What does it say about McCain that he will not consider anything but enforcing a U.S. Policy that has not worked for almost five decades.

OBAMA HAS THE CHARACTER FACTOR

Obama is committed to new relationships with Cuba.

VOTE FOR CHARACTER

Lets make sure we bring to the forefront the number one issue an American should think of when they reach their personal Election Moment vote.

Am I voting for a person who has Character? In that one Election Moment, when an American goes to vote, we must trust that their Character factor will prevail above all else.

Your time is appreciated, and your response is welcomed.

With much respect,

Luis Moro

That crazy filmmaking family...

Now, I truthfully never heard anyone actually call us that...but I saw it in their eyes, and through their smile as they ask, "why don't you get a 'normal job"?

I shrug my shoulders and respond, "I dunnow I guess I love to live my dreams now."

That usually pisses them off pretty good.
However, most of our friends are die hard, dreamer, visionaries or staunch believers in having a voice. My best friend, Martine Legault (she won't mind) flew down from Canada to LA for a weekend one very desperate time while I was juggling new babies & kids and cleaned my house for us out of love-then went home. Who does that? People who believe in us, and love us.

I personally have lost good friends, childhood friends, old ex-church friends, family etc. Well, they are not actually lost, they are just not interested in being around me right now. I can get it. I hardly maintain relationships, unless it's email and the occasional call. I actually hate the phone. The internet is so much quicker. I really want to hang out, and I can't. I really want to play and go listen to music-but I have to pay the bills. We have had to borrow from family and friends in between projects, and all I can say about this is I HATE IT, and I am so grateful and thankful. The only peace I have is that as our projects get bigger and bigger, and we are now going to see larger budgets, I know we will pay back handsomely with extra's. We don't forget who got us here, and to us they are the true unsung hero's. If any of you are reading this, you know who you are. Thank you.

That brings me to: how do you do it with five kids?
Well, I share the first three children with my ex from a previous marriage. And my two Cubanita daughters come from King Kong, Luis Moro. (I'll just call him King Kong from now on. Being that he is the king of Guerilla Filmmaking, and he is a Big, Loud, Opinionated Cuban gives me even more reason.) (Don't believe me, check him out here, or here, or here for yourself.) So, I do share expenses with the ex. But, when they are with me (and even when they are not-I somehow still give them money.)

I juggle between high schools and pre schools. I make sure I have from 9am to at least 6 pm to work. And when I am on set, I enroll family or friends to come stay. We still haven't been able to afford to pay someone to live with us for 30 days during that duration, so we balance the time.

I spend most of my time networking and marketing. I write articles, blog, and talk about our films. I am the one stop PR shop. Everything I do is free on line. I never, ever pay a dime. King Kong will once in a while pay for a very needed service.

The making of a film.

This is actually a teaser because I will be breaking this answer down into many articles, posts along the way. Oh! by the way-this is my *brand spanking new* blog. Yea! I have been wanting to have a place to compile all the musings, findings, triumphs, sorrows, crazinesses, and film making side to my life. My other blog talks only about HOW TO BE A MOM and have the life you want. That site is called Thank God For Mommy.

Being a filmmaker is fun. But, it is hard. Being a woman filmmaker is harder, and being a woman who is a mom the hardest.

When I first got into the filmmaking side of it was when I met my King Kong husband Luis Moro.
He was an actor first, and I was actually really happy he was in the same business. I had been acting off and on, and loved everything about it.
I was born and raised in Hollyweird, Ca and my great great aunt is Hedda Hopper .

Between my dad taking me to the movies five times a week (sometimes all in one day), to having no tv, movies was my life. So acting was natural (amongst other reasons) move for me.

King Kong Moro was finishing his second film when our lives converged and I just started 'helping out'. By going to Cuba (terrified), in my worst-morning-sickness-phase of my pregnancy with our first baby. I was miserable the entire time, but it was one of the biggest, most profound trips I had ever been on. Making a feature length film in Cuba was an amazing experience.
I even went to Miami and got a little tattoo in respect for my man & his culture.

I designed it myself, and now in hind site, I need to fix it. I got another tattoo later, you can see it here. So, I'm veering of coarse....

That is how my film making journey began. I will be covering topics about editing, choosing a director, casting, actors, shopping your film, networking, speaking on panels, events, producing, locations, and funding to name a few. This blog will be a work in progress. Please join my page to keep up to date on this 'One Filmmaker Mom's Blog; journey out of Guerrilla filmmaking.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

My husband's latests marketing attempt (it worked) with real truth behind it:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Barack Obama considers Award winning filmmaker
Luis Moro for Vice-President

Luis Moro makes Brack Obama Vice-President Short List.

WASHINGTON, DC – August 4th, 2008 –
Barack Obama announced today he’s moved
Award winning filmmaker Luis Moro to the top of his
Vice-President running mate short list.

The decision was made during Obama’s Foreign Policy tour
when millions of global citizen kept thanking and praising
Obama for speaking out against the 47 year old failed
policies against Cuba.

Millions of people continue to get educated on Cuba politics
by visiting and joining the number one Cuba Blog at:
http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/blog/cuba

Moro and Obama first met in Los Angeles, CA. when Obama
personally took a copy of history making film Cuba’s
Love & Suicide, the movie from Moro.
A few weeks later Moro was invited to lobby in Washington, DC
against the embargo on Cuba.
Luis met with Obama Senate staff,
which took another fifteen copies of the film for review.

History was made a few weeks later when Barack Obama had
the courage, dignity and character to speak out publicly
against the embargo while still campaigning for
the Democratic presidential nomination.

A bold move that continues to pay off with millions of dollars in
donations and global fans everywhere acknowledging Obama’s Cuba
policy is a clear demonstration of a person who is not influenced
by hate, vintage policies or self absorbed interest groups that
continue to support a Cuba policy that does not work.

“America and the world is sick and tired of senseless political
insanity and outright abuse by a select few U.S. Politicians who
sell their congressional and senatorial votes for money and favors
to maintain abusive policies against Cuba, America
and global citizens.”
Moro said when told of his
rise to the top of the Vice-president list.
